Collaborations
I have had the good fortune to spend over twenty summers painting and living in Swans Island, Maine. In July 2008 the island library was destroyed by a lightening strike during a fierce summer storm. Several days later I began collecting book pages that remained among the debris on the fire site. I invited islanders to commemorate the library by drawing on these scorched pages, and today the collection has developed into a installation of over 200 pages.
As part of a fundraising effort to rebuild the island library I invited over twenty-five Maine artists to create their own page. These pages were auctioned at an event in Northeast Harbor, Maine on August 26. To receive more information about the auction, contact the Swans Island Library at www.swansisland.org or call 207-526-4330.
